(Note: We are NOT a “trauma” center so we are not assigned a ranking; but, would be considered Level II)

Typical nurse to patient ratio:
1:4 (flex up to 1:5); critical care area 1:3 (flex to 1:4)
Typical pt diagnosis:
Typical “emergent” patients (chest pain, MVA, acute & chronic patients)
Common skills utilized:
CPR, ACLS (NRP & PALS a plus!), knowledge of all the above type patients, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication system
Most common meds / those nurses must be familiar with:
All emergency code meds (ACLS)
Care extenders used:
Nurse Care Techs (CNAs with additional skills), Nurse Techs (RN students), paramedics
Certification for Differential:
CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse), through ENA (Emergency Nurses Assoc)
