Well baby 1:5-6 Intermediate care 1:3-4 NICU 1:1-2

Typical pt diagnosis:

Approximately 2200 births/year Newborn care, preterm infant care, sepsis, respiratory distress, juandice

Common skills utilized:

Critical thinking is very important; Nursery/NICU staff are proficient in care of newborn at delivery and throughout hospitalization; also proficient in caring for the sick neonate.

Most common meds / those nurses must be familiar with:

Ampicillin, gentamycin, dopamine, TPN, lipids

Care extenders used:

Occasional Nurse Techs to assist

Certification for Differential:

RNC, through NCC (National Cert Corp)
