Winter Haven Hospital established in 1926 serves as the major medical center for east Polk County and the highway 27/Ridge Corridor. The hospital is a division of Mid-Florida Medical Services, a locally owned and operated501(C)(3)not-for-profit organization which is governed by an independent Board of Trustees made up of local business and civic leaders who serve without pay. With 527 licensed hospital beds, Winter Haven Hospital is the largest of the two main facilities in our healthcare system followed by our women's hospital, the Regency Medical Center.

Winter Haven Hospital with over 2,600 employees is the largest private employer in east Polk County. The hospital is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation for Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and has over 300 board-certified physicians on its medical staff representing every major specialty. Winter Haven Hospital is affiliated with the University of Florida College of Medicine/Shands Healthcare, is a member of the American Hospital Association, Florida Hospital Association, the Premier Alliance, Association of Community Hospitals and Health Systems of Florida and the West Central Florida Hospital Council.   Hospital based services include:

  • open heart surgery center
  • 3 twelve bed intensive care units for medical, surgical and coronary care
  • A 24 bed progressive care unit
  • Centers of excellence in orthopedic surgery, neurology, and neuro surgery

Through its various East Polk and Highland's County sites, Winter Haven Hospital offers numerous specialty programs and units

  • State of the art OB/GYN women's facility
  • Level II neonatal intensive care
  • Comprehensive nationally accredited physical rehabilitation inpatient and outpatient centers, which are also state designated for brain injury
  • 3 cardiac catheterization laboratories
  • Clinical lab and regional blood bank
  • Ambulatory surgery and diagnostic center
  • Emergency department/urgent care center
  • 6 primary care offices (Auburndale, Bartow, Haines City, Lake Wales, Winter Haven (2))
  • Inpatient center for psychiatry/outpatient behavioral health services

With its new Bostick Heart Center and JCAHO Accredited Stroke Center, over 16,000 total admissions last year, 2,500 births and over 60,000 emergency and urgent care visits, Winter Haven Hospital continually seeks to fulfill its mission, which is to improve the health of the communities we serve by providing high quality, cost effective care and services.
